TRICOLORS.COM
A Whisper of France

October 22, 2000 was truly the day Tricolors first popped up on the internet. Actually we had been working on it for some months and sometimes we call July 9th day one. That date, midway between the 4th (Independence Day) and the 14th of July (Bastille Day), seems most appropriate for what evolved. For a little over four years now we have been quietly doing our bit to thaw the enmity between what used to be allies. The progress appears to be glacial but, finally, picking up a little tempo now.

We is a she: Dominique (French, but on a three year visa in the US at the time). A he: David (as American as they come, but born in England, and now living in Paris). And her son: Jerome (25, as French as it is possible to be, and a computer wizard). David had had, for a little over twenty years then, a small Bookaurant & Reststore called D-Pit in Oakhurst California, the gateway to Yosemite. The first project was ddbookline.com, the internet arm of D-Pit. From that beginning sprung tricolors.com. The first year or two saw steady growth but since then we have been in a maintenance mode. Having completed three games in the interim (including Common Denominator – which will now be featured on Tricolors) we are now ready to put some real energy into tricolors.

The original plan, and the direction we want to now reemphasize, is the building of bridges between three great countries. Our name came from the fact that there were three countries all sharing the same three tricolors (red, white, and blue). The United States, France, and Great Britain have many threads in common. They could and should slowly rebuild the friendships that have frayed with the vicissitudes of time.

THE MAGAZINE
A French Point of View

Most of the best features of the original tricolors.com can still be found here in the magazine. Now, in an updated format, and with the ability to search for keywords, you can browse through 5 main categories. 1) Art & Culture – the patrimony, the literature and so much more. 2) Edible – France is succulence. 3) History – articles with an event driven focus. 4) Visiting – what to visit, where, when & why. 5) All – it’s actually listed first, but I list it here because it is all of the above. And with all that you have archives too.

COMMON DENOMINATOR
An Uncommon Game

Are you game enough? Are you smart and do you know it? Common Denominator is a fun diversion testing your ability to find a hidden vertical word that fits with all the horizontals. First you find the horizontals then you find the vertical. Voila! Be careful its addictive. Every day a new puzzle and every day the solution. Thematic word puzzles built around a shared motif. A little bit of trivia, some elements of crosswords, a touch of thought and lots of fun. Soon you will be begging for more - and there is more.

COWBOY IN PARIS
An Unusual Perspective

Cowboy in Paris will be an attempt to bring you much of the current available information on Paris with a slightly different perspective. While Paris will be stressed we will also broaden our focus to France on occasion. In a user friendly form, searchable, and aimed at a more mainstream American we will be producing two or three new segments each week. The focus will be on and for heartland Americans. We have a heartland attitude and we are proud to be American, but we also like many things French
